Type 2 diabetes is a serious disease effecting millions of people today. Type 2 diabetes is a disease associated with high blood glucose levels, insulin resistance, and insulin deficiency. It is a condition where there is a lack of insulin in the body or the body cannot efficiently use the insulin. High blood glucose levels characterize this disease.

It can have terrible consequences such as heart disease, stroke, nerve damage, eye damage, kidney disease (neuropathy), and more if left untreated. People who have diabetes are more than double the risk of developing heart disease than the rest of the population.

About a third of all the people who have type 2 diabetes do not know they have it. Being aware of the symptoms could drastically improve your chances of identifying the disease before health complications arise. Take control of the situation and do not put of any of these symptoms.

Here are some symptoms of type 2 diabetes you should be aware of:

Increased Appetite (after eating) – When your body does not get enough insulin to transport the sugar to your cells, your body becomes deprived of energy causing you to be hungry.

Mouth Dryness and Increased Thirst – When sugar is built up in the blood your fluid is pulled from the body making your mouth dry and thirsty.

Weight Loss – Even though you may be eating more than normal if your body is not transporting glucose many calories will be lost and unused glucose will be released during urination.

Fatigue – If your cells do not get enough glucose (sugar) then they will be denied of this energy source and the body will be fatigued and tired.

Headaches – Caused from high blood sugar. As the sugar builds up in the blood your muscles and organs are deprived of energy and can cause headaches.

Impotence – Diabetes can damage the nerves and blood vessels necessary for an erection.

Frequent Urination – The sugar that is built up in the blood pulls fluid from the tissue causing you to urinate more frequently.

Itchy Skin – Most often caused by the candida albicans fungus associated with diabetes. Dry skin and dehydration caused by frequent urination can also cause itchy skin.

Dark Skin Changes (acanthosis nigricans) – A sign of insulin resistance.

Numb Hands or Feet – A sign of nerve damage associated with diabetes. Tingling of the hands and feet is often the first sign of nerve damage.

Blurry Vision – When too much sugar is in your blood your body will attempt to release it. Sometimes fluid is excreted through the eyes making your vision blurry.

Slow Healing – If you have type 2 diabetes your body’s ability to resist infections and heal will be greatly reduced.

If you have any of these symptoms of type 2 diabetes contact your doctor immediately. With proper diet and nutrition your chances of developing diabetes can be greatly reduced and you can prevent very serious complications if you identify the disease and start getting treatment.

Our country has an ever increasing number of people with obesity and diabetes. There is a direct correlation between obesity and type 2 diabetes. More than eighty-five percent of people with diabetes are overweight. The American Diabetes Association estimates twenty-one million people currently have diabetes, and another fifty-four million have pre-diabetes. Diabetes is a deadly disease and more than 150,000 people die each year because of complications related to diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes is when the body is not transporting glucose properly. This is due to insulin resistance causing a build up of high blood sugar. Insulin is directly responsible for transporting glucose (sugar) to the cells of our body. If a person is obese, the body is less sensitive to insulin. Fat cells have been proven to resist insulin more than muscle cells. Thus, more glucose will be built up in the blood and less will be transported to the cells and organs to be used for energy.

Insulin resistance is only the beginning as well. Once the body has to produce more and more insulin to work properly, the cells become overworked and gradually fail. The body has to work harder to keep blood sugar levels regulated. This puts added stress on other cells to compensate and leads to even worse complications. Nerve damage and liver damage can occur afterwards.

Type 2 diabetes can be prevented in many cases. In recent studies, doctors found that changing your lifestyle to promote weight loss can delay diabetes development or cure it all together. This has to do with changing your diet and eating more healthy. Activities such as walking and jogging were done in a research study and found that the development of diabetes could be cut as much as forty percent. Working out and watching what you eat can have a huge impact on preventing diabetes in the future. Maintaining a healthy weight is the most preventative step you can take to stop type 2 diabetes from developing.

If an obese person builds muscle content and loses body fat, the insulin will work more effectively. The progression of the disease will be slowed or can be prevented entirely. In addition, by losing weight, cholesterol and blood pressure levels will also benefit. You will be more healthy overall and be less at risk for all diseases associated with being overweight.

There are also medications you can take to help treat insulin resistance from obesity. Metformin is one such medicine that is used to reduce the progression of the disease in obese people. It promotes healthy weight loss and lowers blood glucose fasting levels. There are more medications available but you should talk to your doctor before using them.

The high increase in the number of type 2 diabetes cases is due to the increasing number of obesity and overweight people in the U.S. Being overweight greatly improves your chances of developing type 2 diabetes. A proper diet filled with nutrition and exercise can go a long way in the long term battle against diabetes.

Many people are surprised to learn that they have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. However, it should not come as a shock to most people, because an estimate 10% of the American population now suffer from it. It has been called by many a “disease of the modern western lifestyle”, and is officially considered an epidemic by the CDC. These numbers will continue to climb year after year until we better educate the population about the causes and ramifications of this problem.

If you have been told you have this condition, you are probably wondering what steps go into managing type 2 diabetes, while maintaining a relatively normal lifestyle. Since each person will have unique circumstances, it is essential that you work closely with your doctor to come up with a game plan to get this condition under control.

For those with more severe cases of diabetes, the doctor my try to manage it with medication. Diabetes is caused by two different problems with the hormone insulin. Insulin’s job is to take the glucose in your blood, and transport it into the cells so they can use it for energy.

For some people, their pancreas does not produce enough of this hormone, leaving an excess of glucose in the blood stream. In this case, insulin shots may be prescribed. You will likely have to test your insulin levels throughout the day to determine when to take this shots.

Another way that insulin can cause a problem is when you develop a condition called insulin resistance. This resistance is thought to be caused by years of spiking your insulin levels dramatically by eating highly refined carbohydrates. Your body produces enough insulin, but the cells are now less receptive to it, also leaving high levels of glucose in the blood stream. In this case a doctor may prescribe a pill that helps regulate the uptake of glucose into your cells.

While medicine can be very effective at managing type 2 diabetes, they can be very inconvenient and time consuming. You must plan your day around taking shots of pills at specific times, which can be a burden for anyone. The ultimate goal should be to put this condition into remission. This can be done by making some simple lifestyle changes in your eating and exercise habits.

Any successful diabetes management system will involve developing a specific meal plan for the patient. To start off it will be likely that these plans will be very specific, as what you eat directly impacts your blood sugar levels. Your doctor or dietician should educate you on what food choices you should be making on a daily basis. In general you should be moving towards a balanced, whole foods based, diet that looks to eliminate highly refine carbohydrates and bad fats.

Exercise is also incredibly important if you want to be able to manage type 2 diabetes without medicine. Obesity has a huge impact on diabetes risks, so getting in shape will drastically reduce your risks for this condition. Exercising is also a great way to begin the process of reversing insulin resistance. It has been shown that by participating in both cardio and muscle building exercises one can significantly increase sensitivity to insulin.

Being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes is not the end of the world, but it should be a wakeup call for turning your poor lifestyle habits around. Managing type 2 diabetes may not be easy, but it will lead to a much longer, healthier, and enjoyable life.

Type 2 diabetes, also known as adult on-set diabetes, is this most common form of this condition, and is one of the most rapidly growing conditions in the world. It has officially been labeled an epidemic by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as the estimates show that nearly 10% of the U.S. population is affected.

One of the first symptoms of type 2 diabetes would be chronic fatigue and weakness. This is because diabetes is a disease of insulin, which is the hormone that facilitates glucose metabolism in your body’s cells. Glucose is the energy source that these cells run on, so if there is a problem with insulin your body will not be able to get the energy it needs to function properly. Other common symptoms include blurred vision, increased urination, and increased thirst and hunger.

Officially, there is no cure for type 2 diabetes. However, that does not mean that there is nothing you can do to prevent the serious damage this disease can have on your body. With the proper lifestyle changes you can reverse this disease, effectively neutralizing the condition.

The reason there is no cure for this condition is because it is not a disease that one catches or develops, it is a side effect from living an unhealthy life of poor diet and inactivity. A cure would indicate that there was some pill you could take to get rid of the condition, and still eat all the junk food you wanted, while getting little to know exercise. That means the “cure” for type two diabetes is making significant lifestyle changes, and sticking to them.

The consequences for ignoring this problem can be fatal. The majority of those with unchecked diabetes end up dying from either a heart attack or stroke. You are also at risk for going blind, causing severe damage to your kidneys, or even having your foot or leg amputated. This is an easy condition to ignore at first, since you may not notice any immediate complications, but failing to get it under control is a serious mistake.

The first step that any diabetic should take to help reverse the condition is to stop smoking. Smoking is bad for anyone’s health, but it is especially damaging for diabetics. It intensifies all of the complications of this conditions, and there is even initial research showing that it can play a part in developing insulin resistance and other glucose problems.

The next step should be to take control of your eating habits. Insulin resistance is thought to be caused by a lifetime of spiking insulin levels by eating refined sugars and carbohydrates, as well as other poor eating habits. The goal of a type two diabetic should be to switch to a healthy, whole foods, based diet.

You should see a nutritionist of doctor to formulate a meal plan which caters to your specific needs, but there are some simple things you can do immediately to make a positive change. The first would be to cut out refined, also known as “white”, carbohydrates. This includes sugar (candy, soda, and ice cream), refined flour (white bread, pizza, pasta), and nearly everything that contains high fructose corn syrup. Avoid all fast food and any processed foods you would buy in the grocery store. The goal is to eat real food, not something that comes in a box and is microwave ready.

Exercise is also an essential part of any diabetes management plan. You do not need to be running marathons in order to see significant benefits in your blood sugar levels. If you are not used to working out, start by taking a daily walk around the block, and moving up to more strenuous activities once you are in better shape. Always seek professinal medical advice before starting on any new exercise program.

If you have recently been diagnosed with diabetes or pre-diabetes, you may be wondering if there is anything you can do to help prevent some of the devastating complications that come with this disease. While there is no cure, it is possible to make lifestyle changes which can reverse type 2 diabetes. Many people who were once diagnosed with type 2 diabetes can no live a normal life, with no medications, just by correcting some poor eating and exercise habits.

Type 2 diabetes is not a condition that you are born with, although genetics and family history can play a large role in getting it. Insulin, the hormone the regulates glucose uptake, is at the root of the diabetes epidemic. When you eat your body converts your food into glucose, which is then transported through your blood stream in order to be used as power by all the cells in your body. In order for the cells to receive the energy, the glucose must be transported into the cells via insulin, which is produced by the pancreas. When you have type 2 diabetes your cells become resistant to the insulin, or your pancreas does not produce enough insulin to get the job done. This leaves the glucose in your blood stream, which is commonly known as high blood sugar.

There is a very strong link between obesity and type 2 diabetes. The same factors that cause obesity, like eating a poor diet high in refined carbohydrates and bad fats, and living a sedentary lifestyle also eventually lead to insulin resistance. Recent studies are also showing that the adipose tissue (fat) itself can also have an effect on your hormones. So not only does an obese lifestyle cause diabetes, but the fatty tissue can actually play a role.

If you want to take control of this condition before it causes permanent damage, you must dedicate yourself to making some serious life changes. It is not enough to go on a diet for a few months, then jump back into your old habits.

One of the best ways in which you can start reversing type 2 diabetes is by starting a regular workout routine. Not only will this help you lose weight, and increase your overall well being, but it will also help improve your insulin sensitivity. There are myriad benefits to starting a consistent workout plan, and managing your diabetes is just one of them.

There is a good chance that people who have recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes have never exercised much, or it has been a very long time since they have. In this case it is wise to start of slowly, by either taking walks or using a swimming pool. If you have a hard time doing aerobic exercises because of your weight, you can start off with a light weight lifting routine. You should always discuss any new exercise program with your doctor before beginning.

Shifting to a healthy diet is another essential step for putting type 2 diabetes into remission. While you should get a complete nutrition plan created for you by a specialist, it is important to take small steps in changing your eating patterns. We know that refined carbohydrates and bad fats lead to insulin resistance, so you should cut them down as much as possible. This means get rid of all that soda, fast food, sweets, and other processed “food” that you are currently consuming.

If you want to reverse type 2 diabetes you must make some changes in your life. Nobody is going to tell you these changes will be easy, but the alternative is much worse. It is possible to live a normal life when you have this condition, but you must take responsibility for your life to do so.
